How and by whom is the control of the stock market carried out?
The stock market is a market where securities such as stocks, bonds and derivatives of publicly traded companies are bought and sold. Borsa İstanbul (BIST) is an institution with a private law legal entity that carries out stock market activities in Turkey. BIST operates according to the rules set by the Capital Markets Board (CMB) and its own internal regulations.
The stock market is audited by the CMB. It monitors, supervises and inspects the activities of capital market institutions such as CMB, stock market members, brokerage houses, mutual funds, portfolio management companies. The supervisory authority of the CMB is given by law and is used to ensure that stock market transactions are carried out in a transparent, safe and fair manner.
There are two units within the CMB, namely the Capital Markets Supervision Department and the Capital Markets Inspection Board, in order to audit the stock market. Capital market experts and assistant experts working in these units are selected and trained according to the criteria determined by the CMB. These personnel regularly monitor stock market transactions and detect any irregularities, cheats or manipulations. It also prepares annual reports by auditing the stock market members and other capital market institutions on site and imposes sanctions when necessary.
Thus, the audit of the stock market is carried out both electronically and on site by the authorized personnel of the CMB. In this way, it contributes to the healthy and reliable operation of the stock market.
