What is Player vs. Player (PvP)?
Player versus player (PvP) is a concept that refers to the situation of playing a game against one or more players. Especially often used in online games, PvP allows players to compete, cooperate or clash with each other. PvP games often offer different game modes, maps, weapons, characters and abilities. Some examples of PvP games are:
- Counter-Strike: Global Offensive: First-person shooter where two teams face off as terrorists and anti-terrorists. Players try to neutralize the opposing team or complete a specific goal by using different weapons, equipment and strategies.
- League of Legends: Multiplayer online battle arena game where two teams of five try to destroy each other's main building. Players choose different roles, champions and abilities to engage in a battle that requires teamwork and tactics.
- Fortnite: Battle Royale: A survival game where one hundred players try to survive by parachuting onto an island. Players try to protect themselves or hunt down their opponents by collecting weapons, items, and supplies. The playing field is constantly narrowing, forcing players to face each other.
- Among Us: Social detective game where four to ten players try to complete missions on a spaceship. One or two of the players are chosen as the secret killer and try to kill or sabotage the other players. Other players seek and discuss clues to find the killers and kick them out of the game.
PvP games offer players an exciting, challenging and fun experience. Players communicate, collaborate or compete with other players while improving their own skills. PvP games also function as a means of social interaction. Players can meet new people, share common interests, or join communities by playing with friends or strangers. PvP games can develop skills such as problem solving, creativity, leadership, and teamwork, as well as having fun with players.
